Powers or Authorities
Are They Really Our Protectors Against Evil

The Second Hierarchy – princes or lords of the court

Dominions – the fourth choir
Virtues – the fifth choir
Powers – the sixth choir choir

http://www.wendag.com/images/angelology/angelwithskulltwo.jpgThe Powers are the sixth choir of the second hierarchy and are often referred to as “The Authorities”. They are the brain trust so to speak. The advisers and policy planners in the academic areas of ideology, theology, religion and philosophy.

They are the bearers of conscience and the keepers of history. The Dominions, the fourth choir, keep order in the universe but the "Authorities" see that all the laws work together.

They may be academically inclined but do not underestimate them. They are warrior angels created to be completely loyal to God.

They are the avengers of God constantly on patrol against demon infiltration and trying to protect our souls from evil. It seems their job is becoming harder and harder each and every year. They guard the heavenly pathways from earth to heaven guiding our souls in the transition to the next life.

Whenever there is a struggle between good and evil going on you can bet they are there. Romans 13:1 ”Let every soul be subject unto the power but of God: the Powers that be are ordained of God.

Some scholars say they were the first angels created and that more angels from their ranks (with Satan) than from any of the other angelic choirs. However, as usual in religious texts, there are other groups who believe that not even one has ever fallen from grace which cannot be true since Satan was a chief of this choir.

It is not unrealistic that many of them defected due to their constant exposure to evil but on the other hand, one of their primary responsibilities is to protect the world against being taken over by demons!!

http://www.wendag.com/images/angelology/angelkillingdemon.jpgAccording to Romans 13: 1-4 Let every soul be subject unto the higher Authorities. For there is no power but of God: the Powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the Authorities resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the Powers? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

They are by God’s design, attracted to demons but are at the same time repulsed by them. Perhaps since they were, according to some theologians, the first angels created and Lucifer, the most beautiful of all angels, was a chief of this choir they were linked with darkness.

In his letter to the Ephesians 6:12 , St Paul indicates that they are malevolent. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

These angels could also be compared with the Egyptian god Seth, a troublesome and much feared deity of chaos and darkness who was the only god strong enough to fend off the attacks of evil forces intent on destroying the cosmos. Sounds familiar doesn't it?
The "Authorities" are in close collaboration with the Principalities, known as the Rulers in both power and authority.

The ruling princes of the "Authorities" are mostly Archangels or Fallen Angels.

Chamuel, (Camael, Kemuel), is chief of the Authorities and means “he who seeks God”. As with many of the primary angels, he is involved with more than one choir of angels and is one of the seven Archangels.

Gabriel – Is not only one of God’s favorite angels his name means “God is my strength”. He is also known as the Angel of the Annunciation, Angel of Mercy, Angel of Revelation, Chief Ambassador to Humanity and more.

Verchiel is also one of the rulers. He, like most of the primary angels, is represented in astrology. In Camfield’s A Theological Discourse of Angels he is known as the angel who rules the month of July and ruler of the sign of Leo in the zodiac.

Satan (before his fall) – in Hebrew means“adversary”.
